Becoming a ‘Friend of the Bud Flanagan Leukaemia Fund’
The ‘Friend of the Bud Flanagan Leukaemia Fund’ was formed as a response to
many people who wanted to make a small but regular donation to the work of
the Bud Flanagan Leukaemia Fund. We currently have around 400 members who
make an annual donation of £15, or more, by Direct Debit. If the donation is
made under Gift Aid, the value of this donation, including the tax refund,
which we can claim becomes £19,23. The benefits of membership are:
 |
You will be supporting the Bud Flanagan Leukaemia Fund on a regular basis,
even though you may not attend one of our fund
raising events.
You will receive a ‘Bud Pin’ which is an image of Bud Flanagan’s hat in gold coloured metal, about 1cm, which can be conveniently attached to a suit lapel or dress. |
If you would like to become a member of the ‘Bud Club’ please complete and
return to the General Secretary a Bud Club Application form, indicating the
amount and frequency of your preferred donation (minimum £15 per annum). If
you are a tax payer, please read the notes about Gift Aid and complete and
return a declaration with your application form. |

Bud Bear
The late Bud Flanagan was the inspiration of the Bud Flanagan Leukaemia Fund
and remains so, but it has been noted that the ‘younger
generation’
were less aware of who Bud Flanagan was than their parents. The image of Bud
Flanagan,
created
by the late Roy Ullyett, has graced our letter headed note-paper and
publications for many years and is held in high esteem, but it was felt that
on entering the 21st century, a more up-t0-date image was needed. As a
result of a public relations exercise, ‘Bud Bear’ was born. He was to be not
only a mascot of the Bud Flanagan Leukaemia Fund, but a cuddly toy which
could be bought to add to an existing collection or given to a friend of
child to carry the message of Leukaemia research.
Every Bud Bear carries a message which says ‘Hi, my name is Bud Bear. I am
the mascot of the Bud Flanagan Leukaemia Fund (and I’ve even inherited Bud
Flanagan’s original hat!)’. Bud Bears find themselves in all sorts of homes
helping to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.
As well as al the events that are organised during the year to raise money
to find a cure for leukaemia, there is also ‘The Bud Club’ of which I am the
mascot. I even write the newsletter which is sent out twice a year to all
members. So if you want to support the BFLF and learn about all the events
that are happening throughout the year, why not join the ‘The Bud Club’?
That way you can also get to know me better.
